Espionage Art Market #2

 

This is just a quick reminder to fellow Adelaideans and visitors from overseas & interstate, that tomorrow will mark the day of the 2nd art markets at Espionage Gallery. Open from 5 til 9pm, we will showcase some of the best and brightest local makers Adelaide has to offer. The Dress - a little zine

 

I think I made mention of my trip to the Flinders Ranges a while back, where myself and about 17 others went out to rural South Australia for a week. It was a part of a textiles experience camp for uni, where we learned how to dye cotton and wool with dyes derived from Australian Native plants. This was one of the most amazing, invigorating and exciting weeks of my life, and I will forever remember it fondly.

The final exhibition and presentation of the works was last week, the photos of which I will share with you shortly. In addition to producing work we also had to have a short story (no longer than 750 words) prepared relating to the research we did about this place in the Flinders Ranges. I later turned my story into a little zine, which I am thinking of making a limited edition of. It tells the story of a migrant from England called Mary, who as a young child gets transported to Australia in the 1880s to work and make a living for herself. The story is told from the point of her dress, which becomes her sole reminder of home, and her best friend. I think this may just find a place in my etsy shop.

Espionage Art Markets

Josh and myself, the good people of Espionage Gallery are excitedly planning the first of a series of monthly art markets. The first one opens this friday, the 9th of September and we are super-chuffed! Hopefully this will be a staple event in the life of this great little city of Adelaide, and turn into a terrific platform for showcasing local art and talent. Shoes and sunshine

Most of the last few days have been about celebrating the sunshine and my news shoes. I purchased these beautiful tan leather shoes from Kolokolo's etsy shop. I am pretty sure they are hand made, as it took a little while for my little feet to get used to them. Either way they are super and go perfectly with a white summer dress! I am off to finish an essay and continue working away at a giant watermelon. I am sending some Australian sun to all the lovely European readers sitting snug in their woolies. x

ooh and I forgot to mention something very significant that happened today. something history rendering. earth shattering.

it was warm enough to wear shorts today.

OK OK.. let me repeat that for you, I know its hard to believe considering this is Adelaide, and its been bloody freezing the past few months. So here goes..

There. I said it. amazing. so this little taste of summer set my brain abuzz and got me looking forward to all the wonders the summer solstace bring with its bountiful warm bosom such as beach volleyball, tan, warm summer nights with open windows and starry skies, beach beach beach, skirts and shorts, excuse for new bikini (not that I need one as I believe i fall in the "dire need" category for this garment) and many many more fun facts about summer and all its pros. all this coming from a self-confessed winter girl. yes. Oh yes and whilst I'm on the topic of bikinis I found some really great designs by MINKPINK who are a pretty sweet up and coming label I keep seeing a lot of in the 'hot' stores around town.




and I rather rate the look on the right. (except with bra methinks.. so as to avoid traffic hazards at least) and I am rather a fan of the photography of this seasons MINKPINK catalog. really good.
