print cult exhibition opening

Last night I had the pleasure and good fortune of attending the opening of Print Cult at Magazine Gallery. An exhibition by an exceptional collection of Adelaide printmakers Josh Searson, Kerri Ann Wright, Jayson Fox, Louise Vodic and Jake Holmes.

My favourite piece of the show would have to be Louise's relief print (picture 3). For me, it is reminiscent of early Japanese landscapes. I love the organic quality of the lines, the overlapping movement and splendid choice of complimentary colours. Special kudos to Kerri Ann too for the beautiful framed print. So beautiful.

red opus students' show

Due to the flurry of this past few weeks it is only now that the Red Opus Students' Show is finished, and I forgot to write about it. Either way it was lots of fun showing alongside some really great up and coming Adelaide artists like Jenny Allnut and Piyarat Mukura. The show was curated by a good friend of mine, the wonderful Anna Ficek, who I am not only glad to have had the pleasure of working with but also the pleasure of sharing a city with, as she is a globetrotter like none other!

All up I am really pleased with the experience and happy with the four pieces I put up. The two large woodpanels were (very ) last-minute, and I have to say they are possibly two of my most favourite pieces that I have created. Someone recently made a comment about Agnes (pictured just above) being a great design for a Tshirt. So that is something to think about. Perhaps I'll enter it on Design By Humans or Threadless? Anyone have an idea for me?

Uchiwa Fan Exhibition Update

Wow, what a busy yet satisfying week its been! I feel like I managed to get a lot done without stress myself out in the process, which is really saying something. Perhaps a little bit of personal growth has occurred? We shall have to wait and keep observing..

In other, and arguably much more exciting news, the opening of the Uchiwa Fan charity exhibition for Japan at Espionage Gallery last Thursday was great! We had a massive turnout and managed to sell 25 of the 50 fans on the opening night, including mine (picture one above). That already takes us to a subtotal $1500. I think that is a brilliant achievement for one night! A few more fans have sold since, with 22 fans remaining at this moment in time. The show is only on until this Thursday, the 12th of May so any local and interstate visitors looking to come in are advised to be quick. We want to get the money our Japanese brothers and sisters as soon as possible.

I am honoured and excited to have been invited to take part in this show for this wonderful cause alongside 49 brilliant artists from Australia and New Zealand. It is so lovely to use my art as a direct tool for positive change. x

Uchiwa Fan Exhibition for Japan

I have been looking forward to writing this post, as it means the Uchiwa Fan Exhibition is finally here! And I am so excited to have been one of the selected 50 artists to participate in this wonderful show.

Espionage Gallery in collaboration with That Fresh have joined forces to help the people of the Tohoku region of Japan in the wake of the recent Disasters which have befallen Japan. In an effort to raise money in help of support for disaster relief, Espionage Gallery and That Fresh purchased 50 blank Japanese Uchiwa Traditional fans and gave them out to 50 artists from accross Australia and New Zealand.

These 50 fans were painted or decorated by some of Australia’s leading artists in an effort to help raise funds. The fans will be for sale for 1 week at Espionage Gallery for the set price of $60 per fan. 100% of the funds raised from the sale of the fans will be donated directly to the Japanese Red Cross in an effort to fund disaster relief.

The Exhibition will run from the opening night on Thursday the 5th of May at 6pm until the following Thursday and the gallery will be open from 12 noon – 6pm everyday.

Yippie! Hurrah! What a night it was! The opening of Milk. went really well! I was super pleased with the great turnout of the wonderful people, who managed to make it despite the heat. There has been a lot of interest in the 2L slip cast milk containers (pictured bottom left) and despite their somewhat spicy price, they are selling nicely. Overall I am really pleased with the outcome and am looking forward to giving away my precious pieces to their new homes. x

Golly me, its been a hectic few months! But I am nearing the finish line! Only 4 more sleeps until my opening and I can't wait! It has been quite a journey, learning new ceramic methods and getting over 80 clay pieces ready for the show. Looking over the progress shots (above) I realize how far I've come and just how much I've learned. It has been splendid. Oh and before I forget, I updated my etsy shop. Have a peek!

Here is another hot little snippet from the exhibition preparations. The version that will circulate the city will of course got my name on it, this is just the draft. this painting is the newest, actually and somehow came to perfectly epitomise what I hope the show to be about. x

MILK!

I am very excited to share with you, news of my impending solo show! 'MILK.' opens in exactly three weeks and I am really psyched! I have worked endlessly for the last 4 months and I think it will definitely show! I have combined my painting practice with ceramics, so there will be something for everyone! The details have been top secret, but all will be revealed on the opening night! If you are an Adelaidean or will be in town on the night, be sure to RSVP. Hope to see you there! x

Judging by the end results, I was in a rather romantic mood yesterday.. I produced three new Moleskine journals to celebrate L O V E and happiness, and to tweak my shop before its big Art Showcase debut on Etsy on the 14th of September. My little shop will be featured on the main Art page all day on the fourteenth so check back to this page in two days time! Yay!

I am also in hot discussion with a couple of gallery spaces here in Adelaide about possible exhibitions in the coming months, between november and march. I struggle to decide whether say a two month period is enough for me to produce a large body of work with all that is going on in my life right now. I am looking to go on a sculptural tangent for the next couple of shows, which is exciting yet also perilous as it is uncharted territory for me. Does peachpatrol have the time to experiment with new materials such as porcelain and plaster and get her hands real dirty all in time to produce something truly amazing? .. I suppose we shall all have to see, with me included.. Have a great sunday and leave me some love! x x

sneaky peaky, makey bakey

The weekend flew by with unusual ease as I worked on my glass project, completed etsy orders and baked a bizarre little shortcake. The key ingredients comprises of rice flower, cardamom pods, oat milk and roughly chopped almonds. It definitely sits in the "zingy" category of baked goods, as the flavours have some bite and the almonds have some crunch. I topped it with a beautiful raspberry puree from Haighs. I will take some to the studio today and feed some of my fellow povered art students.

On another, somewhat more delighted note I am pleased to share that over the last 3-4 days I completed about 5 paintings. I was in a creative daze and found myself reaching for woodpanel after woodpanel. Very exciting! Especially considering the fact that I was offered a spot in October for a little exhibition, (still very hush hush for now!) for which I needed to create new works anyway. Stay tuned! x

.. that which resulted in the format + 2% exhibition titled BIG! .. which was, as it suggests a massive one-night-only art show with over 30 Australian artists! Was amazing and brilliant! Here is what I wrote about the project for the catalog:

'The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page' is true for this work, and completely true for life. The Kombi Project is the first child of The Naysayers (SASA students Anna Ficek, Caitlin Millard, Christina Georgiou, Fruzsi Kenez, Laura McClaren and Maree Furlong), an arts collective brought together by a love for the visual arts, music, and japanese cuisine. This collaborative piece is all about traveling, experiencing, and collecting pieces of the bigger puzzle, as the transformation that our beloved Kombi underwent is reflective of our own personal growth throughout the last two years.
