Facebook fanship and other news

 

My little facebook fanpage got around 40 new followers this week, which is really really lovely. Not only that, it is also an exponential increase in popularity. Ha! In other news I just returned from the post office on this not-so-fine and rainy day to post a couple of orders from my etsy shop. Also, if any local Adelaide-based makers are reading this, don't forget - Espionage Art Market #3 is coming, and will be held on November 11th. Shoot me an email if you'd like to take part. Oh dear me! I realize how busy a time it has been, when I see that its been a week since my last post. That is not good. In between finishing my Bachelor degree in Art History, co-directing a busy gallery and working a few other odd jobs/gigs around the place I have no time to update my little blog. Anyway, I'd like to remind all you lovely followers to also like my artist page on facebook, where I frequently do little giveaways. Yesterday I sent a sticker pack to the first person to like the update, and will do another one next week! In other news, my etsy sale is coming to a close shortly, so be sure to pay the shop a visit. There are new goodies, two in fact! On monday I printed up large, A3 sized prints of Oola and Loola, and I Dream of Triangles. They look great this large, I think I will do A3 prints of all the currently listed illustrations. What do you think?

Yippie! I have finally finished my end of semester exams and major assignments + essays. I am so relieved and excited to have a little bit of time to relax. To celebrate I went to my favourite printing place in the city and got some more Chloe prints and Blue prints done on some beautiful enviro-linen stock. After this weekend I am also hoping to get some new prints made as well as show you some new original works I have been working on. Unfortunately, I killed my camera a few weeks ago (waterbottle in bag accident) and I have not yet found a replacement or purchased a new one. Instead, I've been shooting with my Diana F+. I will share some of those photos soon too.

new miri and the birds print and feature on art hound

It is the weekend following yet another busybusy (one 'busy' is simply not enough!) week at uni and in the studio, and at last I get to share the fruits of my labours with you. Firstly, I have added a new print to my store. It is a portrait of Miriam, or Miri and the Birds as I named the piece. It sounds more like a band name than anything, but I think its quite sweet. To achieve the dusty effect I wanted to emphasise the flurry of feathers and movement I used a combination of gouache and white pencil and rub-rub-rubbed until the desired vision took shape. Besides Miri there are a few other new things in store.

Secondly I am very excited to be a featured artist on Art Hound, a fabulous curated space by Brooklyn-based blogger Kate Singleton. Her page is so clever and well designed, I could browse it for eternity!

birthday surprise

This morning was spent getting a little birthday package ready for a special lady by the name of Liz, who is the auntie of one of my return customers. for her fiftieth birthday this week she will be receiving a special Dotty Vase set (the one I mentioned in the previous post). I will be dropping this package off tomorrow. I really hope she will be very happy. I hope you're happy, too x

new in store

Over the weekend I added a couple more ceramic items to my little shop. Mainly gazing bowls, as I am slowly running out of vases, which is very nice. It is always very satisfying to make a product and find it selling nicely. This lovely dotty vase set sold over the weekend, which was actually one of my favourites from the series.

I will be off to the printer's tomorrow to pick up some crisp prints of my illustrations. I can't wait to see them and share them with you all! I hope you are all basking in the same sunny weather as we are here in Adelaide. Much love x

scout & catalogue

Scout & Catalogue has been on my radar for quite a while now, and now what began as a fling has turned into a bit of an obsession! Since I was a child I have loved batik and tie-dye techniques and even today I find myself so drawn to the faded/saturated look of these materials. I will undertake an intensive one week natural dye-ing workshop in the Australian bush in July, and as preparation I am beginning my research in the realm of textile art. Beginning with Breanna's super shop Scout & Catalogue, I will continually add to my textile obsessions of the moment collection. Stay tuned, and check out this maker's featured seller interview.

A little while ago I discovered yet another amazing artist working out of Portland, Oregon. (where else?) It is the lovely Cathy McMurray, who creates these wonderful paintings, so dense in detail and colour. I love the versatility and pattern combination in each work. You can see more of her work in her super duper etsy shop.

tales of love and longing

I finally got around to adding a couple of original paintings on wood to my etsy shop. Yay! The first image is of Pauline and the Worms, a one of a kind painting featuring ink, watercolour, graphite and colour pencil on wood. It tells the story of Pauline's wonderful dream where magical worms swim all around her, creating a stunning kaleidoscopic vision. I sure wish I could dream that way!

The second painting is a portrait of darling May, a young maiden who gave her heart to a sailor who she misses very much. As he sails the seven seas each day, May sheds a longing tear for him and keeps the memory of their love alive until he returns again. This tale is a lot more personal, and has resonance for me. obsessive consumption

I came across this delightful series in kateconsumption's etsy shop. Each month Kate creates a zine featuring her daily purchases, or rather subjects of "obsessive consumption". Featuring a drawing per page, she documents her life in a lovely illustrative style. Me gusta!

custom orders for the goodie horders

Following my show Milk, the orders for ceramic goodies have certainly piled up. Besides making numerous cups and things featuring owls, I am also making 5 custom 2l milk containers. They are somewhat more time consuming, but also much more fun to paint as the designs tend to be more abstract and free flowing. What you see in the first picture is exactly what one of these big bottles looks like post-bisque (after the first firing) and before it gets painted. stay tuned for more sneaky studio shots!

Other good news is that finally finally I have found a wonderful and local (!!) printing company to create some lovely limited edition prints of my work. this is very exciting as I have been wanting to get some made for a couple of years now. the first batch should be done in the next few weeks as I am doing the test printing in the coming days. Yay!

inspiration in a cup

For the last couple of weeks, it feels like I have been living in the studio. All I can think about these days is glazing, bisqueing and pondering new ingenious ways of making unique ceramic wares. This is also why I am so very excited to introduce to you the work of one of my most favourite etsy sellers, Stephanka. Her uber-popular shop is brimming with amazing and delightful designs, of which a favourite is oh-so-hard to choose! Having said that, I think mine is probably the teapot mug pictured above. Its wonderful. And I thank this New York artist for her joyous approach to her work, as she says on her profile, "I truly love what I do and I thank every day for this privileged life I live."
