feature friday XXVIII - maya hayuk

Maya Hayuk is a Brooklyn based artist who is well known for her crazy murals. She fuses aspects of Ukrainian folk culture with crazy geometric shapes and bright colours. I love her work, and would really like to commission her to do a mural either at our gallery, or somewhere else in Adelaide. Our little city could really use a big burst of colour like this! Check out her crazy website and blog.

Public Art Commission - Part I

I have begun working on my first public art commission. Myself and two other artists have been commissioned by the Council of Kensington to work with local schools to produce art for the gates and fences of the local community. I am working with the children of the kindergarden. 52 four year olds to be exact! The project I designed is a portrait garden, where each child will produce a portrait onto corflute (a recycled material) and then decorate it to look like a flower. Eventually I am hoping to fill the fence with the flower-portraits and leaves to create a nature inspired, and very happy fence. Wish me luck!
